League of Legends was developed by Riot Games and belongs to the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games. Generally, League of Legends is abbreviated “LoL” and played in game mode 5 versus 5, whereby professional teams face each other at tournaments. Here, each player selects prior to the start of the game one of more than 130 characters with four unique skills respectively. Each player takes on a certain role in his team and positions himself on a different point on the map according to his role. The card is divided into three lanes where towers are located that must be destroyed to subsequently destroy the enemy base. The team that destroys the enemy base – also called Nexus – first, wins the game. Typically, one player is the top laner and occupies the upper lane, one player is the midlaner who occupies the middle lane, two players, the AD carry and his supporter, occupy the lower lane and the final player is the jungler who moves between the lanes in the forest. If you kill enemy heroes, neutral monsters or minions of the opposing team, you gain experience as well as gold that you can use to purchase objects which strengthen the character. After acquiring a certain amount of experience characters advance a level. The highest level is 18. The map also contains two “boss-like” neutral monsters, the dragon and the baron, who reinforce the team for a certain number of minutes.
Tournaments are usually played on five or more maps, which means they are best-of-five tournaments. The team that earns three victories first, wins the series.
